The Benefits Of Being Honest

Philippians 4:8

Being honest is one of the treasures that is difficult to come by; don’t expect it from cheap people. To be honest is to be free of deceit. It is good to be honest with everyone, especially yourself. Honesty should be your hallmark as a child of God. The more honesty is exercised, the more it becomes a settled disposition. Therefore, one of the benefits of being honest is that it attract greatness and peace without stress.

When you do what you suppose to do you are actually laying a good foundation for the coming generation to live a good life. Whatever you do when no one is watching, will determine what you will get when people will be watching. Being honest is a force that displays your capacity of transparency and the ability to show who you said you are. It has capability to reveal and test your real personality. Honesty is a facet of moral character that connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, straightforwardness, including straightforwardness of conduct, along with the absence of lying, cheating, theft, etc. Honesty also involves being trustworthy, loyal, fair, and sincere. Honesty is valued in the world today, in many ethnic groups and religious cultures. As you develop honesty, integrity, character, sincerity, humility and kindness, you will be able to break free from selfishness and self-centredness. You begin to develop greater capacity for generosity. Because, we live in a world where honesty isn’t talked about nearly enough. We live in a world where the end justifies the means has become an acceptable school of thought for far too many. It may seem like people can gain power quickly and easily if they are willing to cut corners and act without the constraints of morality. Dishonesty may provide instant gratification in the moment but it will never last. I can think of several examples of people who are not honest, who are successful and who escaped without ever getting caught, which creates a false perception of the path to success that one should follow. But doing that, you lose your ability to be trusted as an honesty carrier, which is the most valuable quality anyone can have in his or her life. Profit in cash or power is temporary, but profit in a network of people who trust you as an honest person is forever. If you surround yourself with people who are dishonest and willing to cut corners to get ahead, then you will surely find yourself following a pattern of first enduring their behavior, then accepting their behavior, and finally adopting their behavior. If you want to build a reputation as a person who is honest, then surround yourself with people of integrity.
