The wilderness was not an easy place for the people of Israel because they drink Bitter water, lack of food, lack of water, all of these trials faced Israel on their exit from Egypt. But now, they face a different kind of challenges. The Amalekites come out to meet them not in friendship but to attack them without mercy but they look up to God for victory. Life’s Journey involves much more than merely reaching a destination. The victory over the amalekites involved the power of God in heaven, the military skill of Joshua, the army on the battlefield, the lifting up of the Rod of God by Moses, the intercessory support of Aaron and Hur on top of the hill and looking up to God for victory. God could have sent angels to annihilate the Amalekites but He designs to use human instruments to accomplish His purposes.

He is with you, He is for you and in Him there is victory. Not victory that delivers you from bad circumstances but victory that delivers you through bad circumstances. The Amalekites initiated this conflict because they were related to the people of Israel. Amalek was a grandson of Esau, Jacob’s brother. They were attacking Israel at their weakest point. God is expecting you to learn a great lesson from this first battle the children of Israel fought.
